Why iPad mini’s digitizer is more expensive than iPad’s?

A customer came to fix his iPad mini cracked digitizer (we usually call it glass). I told him the price is $75 now for iPad mini 1/2/3 digitizer replacement. He felt surprise when I told him the price for iPad 2/3/4 is only $65. He thought that the price for iPad 2/3/4 should be more expensive than iPad mini 1/2/3 because of its size.  Actually the reasons for the price difference have two main aspects: first, because the iPad mini 1/2/3 is newer than iPad 2/3/4, the parts for iPad mini are a bit more expensive than iPad’s. The other aspect is that it takes longer time to replace iPad mini digitizer because we have to swap the flex cable for iPad minis using micro-soldering. There is a chip on the original digitizer flex cable, which is in charge of the sleeping function. If we don’t swap the flex cable from the original to new digitizer then the iPad mini won’t sleep when closing lid of the case, while 95% aftermarket iPad minis’ digitizer don’t come with the chip.

Why iPad mini won’t sleep after replacement of digitizer?

Here is the picture of a original digitizer with flex cable. The small flex cable which is partly covered by type needs to be swapped to new digitizer.  You can check the sleep function after repair shop fixed the digitizer for you then you will know whether they have swapped it for you or not. From our experience we found most repair shop didn’t swap the flex cable for customers, they just put a new digitizer on and throw the cracked digitizer away, therefore, your iPad mini won’t go to sleep when you close the lid of case.
