How to setup HATS from scratch

Step 1: Prepare the microSD Card

  1. Connect your microSD card to your computer.
  2. Format the card to FAT32 (use a tool like GUIFormat if the card is larger than 32GB).
  3. Go to the HATS GitHub and download the latest release.
  4. Copy all contents of the HATS zip file directly to the root of your SD card.

Step 2: Boot into Hekate

  1. Insert the SD card into your Switch and power it on.
  2. The PicoFly chip will pulse, and you’ll boot straight into the Hekate menu.
  3. Set up the date and time.

Step 3: Create the 12 GB Partition

We’re going to set aside that specific 12 GB chunk for your emuMMC.

  1. In Hekate, go to Tools (top tab) > Partition SD Card.
  2. Look for the slider labeled emuMMC (RAW GPP).
  3. Slide it until it indicates 12 GB.
  4. Tap Next Step and then Start.
  5. Wait for Hekate to finish “moving" your existing files and creating the partition. Once it’s done, your HATS files will still be right where you left them.

Step 4: Flash the emuMMC

Now we tell the Switch to actually use that 12 GB “room" we just built.

  1. Return to the Hekate Home tab.
  2. Tap emuMMC > Create emuMMC.
  3. Select SD Partition.
  4. Select Part 1.
  5. Hekate will now clone your internal system files into that 12 GB partition. This usually takes about 10–15 minutes.

Step 5: Launching HATS

  1. Go back to the Home tab.
  2. Tap Launch.
  3. Select CFW EmuMMC.
  4. The Switch will boot, showing the HATS splash screen and then the home menu.
